Guidance Regarding Casting Decisions
When auditioning for a show, students typically have a goal and/or desire to be considered for a specific role. While it’s great to have goals, it’s also helpful to understand that there can only be 1 Annie and 1 Miss Hannigan (or whomever your student is hoping to be cast as). We find it helpful if you start preparing your student for potential disappointment if they aren’t cast in the role that they were hoping for. We encourage you to start having those conversations with your student now, before the Cast List is posted.
All roles are important to the telling of the story; however only 1 student will be assigned to a specific role and this is based on the Directors short time with your student on Thursday during the audition process. There are many factors that are considered during the casting process. It’s not just about the students ability to sing, dance and act. How a student behaves during the audition process is just as important. Do they listen and take direction well? Are they willing to sing a solo? Are they willing to read for a certain role, when asked? These are just a few examples.
It’s also important to note that if a student is cast in an ensemble role, it doesn’t mean that they did poorly on their audition. Again, we encourage you to start this conversation with your student before Thursday. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping to make this class experience a positive one for your student. It’s our hope that your student will enjoy the process, embrace the role(s) that they are assigned and have a fun class!
Cast List
CAST LIST
Please click HERE for the Cast List. Please take time to work with your student to highlight their parts in the script and start listening to the Rehearsal Tracks, in preparation for next week’s class.
A note from the Team:
Congrats to all of you on a successful audition! You all did so well and we are so proud and excited. While you may only see your name under one section or part, everyone in the show (minus Harold Hill, of course) is also a Townsperson and will be in those songs as well. There are some solos that will be assigned at a later time, as well.
We were all so impressed by the energy and bravery of all of you and couldn’t be more excited. This show has plenty of opportunities to showcase each and every actor’s strengths & talents and we are so excited to put this show together!
Rehearsal Tracks
It is very important that your student practices at home. Please have your student listen to and practice with the Rehearsal Tracks to begin with, these have the words and will help them with timing. Then as songs become familiar, please transition them to practicing with the Performance Tracks, these have the music without the words and what they will be performing with.

Audition Materials
All students will be assigned a role(s) in this production class. Mini auditions will be held the first class night to assign roles. It will be very helpful to the success of your student and the class if students were familiar with the audition materials ahead of Thursday’s class. Our instructors will take time to review the materials with the students at the beginning of class, before they audition. It is not a requirement to have everything memorized, but rather just be familiar with the songs and lines. There is no choreography to learn for this audition.
VOCALS: Please listen and sing-along to the songs several times before the first day of class. This does not need to be memorized for the audition but it will be very helpful to know the timing and melody of the songs. Students who are interested in a larger speaking role must be willing to sing a solo during the audition process.
ACTING: These are called “Sides”, which simply means a portion of the script used in the audition process. Please be familiar with all parts. These do not need to be memorized for the audition, but it will be very helpful is the student is already familiar with the content, especially if they are not strong readers. Students who are interested in a larger speaking role must be willing to read for a part during the audition process.
