Welcome to Camp!
WELCOME
Welcome to our KIDS Summer Camp! This camp has guaranteed casting. This informational page will hopefully answer some of your questions about this camp.
AUDITION MATERIALS
All students will be assigned a role(s) in this class. Mini auditions will be held to assign roles.
1 Week Camp - Auditions will be held on Monday of camp
2 Week Camp - Auditions will be held during the first 1-2 days of camp, this depends on the number of students in the camp.
It is not necessary for students to prepare anything special for auditions. We just ask that you communicate with your student to be confident and willing to try when asked to participate. Our Directors will take time to teach the audition materials to the students at the beginning of camp, before they audition. Students who are interested in a larger role must be willing to read for a part and sing a solo during the audition process.
GUIDANCE REGARDING CASTING DECISIONS
When auditioning for a show, students typically have a goal and/or desire to be considered for a specific role. While it’s great to have goals, it’s also helpful to understand that casting may not always turn out the way one would hope. We find it helpful if you start preparing your student for potential disappointment if they aren’t cast in the role that they were hoping for. We encourage you to start having those conversations with your student now, before the first day of camp.
All roles are important to the telling of the story; however only 1 student will be assigned to a specific role and this is based on the Directors short time with your student during the audition process. There are many factors that are considered during the casting process. It’s not just about the students ability to sing, dance and act. How a student behaves during the audition process is just as important. Do they listen and take direction well? Are they willing to sing a solo? Are they willing to read for a certain role, when asked? These are just a few examples.
It’s also important to note that if a student is cast in an ensemble role, it doesn’t mean that they did poorly on their audition. It may be that your student was noticed to be a leader and that is where they will best support the rest of the cast. All roles are important and needed to tell the story.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping to make this camp experience a positive one for your student. It’s our hope that your student will enjoy the process, embrace the role(s) that they are assigned and have a fun camp!
PRACTICE AT HOME
It will be very important for your student to put in some time each evening to practice. This will include learning and memorizing lines, songs and dances. This Callboard will be our main means of communication with you after the first camp day and will contain all the necessary information and materials your student will need to be successful in this camp.
