Production Teams

With a new, smaller production company that focuses so much on quality, it’s vital that we have the right resources in place in order for a show run to be successful. Production Teams are that resource! This is an opportunity to support our actors, crew, artistic team and the whole of Lovegood by doing the behind the scenes work required to make our shows amazing. We need help with everything from sets and costumes, to helping with backstage and concessions. It takes a village to put on a show are we are so thankful for our amazing production team members. However, we understand that some families do not have the ability to participate in this way. This is why there are two tuition options.

If you chose the show tuition option where your family commits to being a part of a production team you will be required to provide at least 1 Parent/Guardian or adult representative (18+), to represent your family on Production Team(s).  You will have a Production Team Lead who will be your point of contact throughout the show process.  You will work with your Designer (where applicable), Production Team Lead and your teammates to complete projects and deadlines for the show.  All Production Team members will be required to consent to and pass a background check, covered by Lovegood.

Production Team commitment levels will vary from team to team and from show to show. To learn more about the various jobs please look through the Production Team Form.

You can review the teams and indicate your preferences when you fill out the Production Team Form. We will attempt to honor your preferences, however, depending on the needs of the show, you may be placed on a non-preferred team. Please make sure to indicate any conflicts of the person working on the Production Team on the production team form.

We realize that there are some that desire to serve on a production team themselves, and also be on the cast of the show. At Lovegood, we want to honor that desire and commitment, but with a word of caution. Due to our production teams being reliant on every member to pull their share of the load, we ask that if a cast member is serving on a production team to represent themselves, they commit to the equivalent amount of hours as those on their team that are not on cast or crew. Although it is preferred that you partner with a friend or family member who can help, this can still be done successfully with the proper amount of communication and commitment.

What to Prepare and Bring to Your Audition

Please make sure you have completed all required forms and either made an appointment or submitted your virtual audition materials on or before 11:59 pm January 23rd We know there is a lot of stuff to prepare and bring with you to auditions. Please reach out if you need help or have questions!

Song Selection

We want you to be comfortable at auditions!  If you have a musical theatre song that is in the style/range of the character(s) that you will be auditioning for, then PLEASE audition with that song. The best choice is a song that reflects the style of the show! Example: If you are auditioning for Fiddler on the Roof, you would choose a song from a different Golden Age Broadway Musical, not a contemporary song from something like School of Rock. However, always do what makes you feel the most confident!

  • Prepare 32 bars of any musical theatre song (Note this is different from some of our shows where we have asked for only 16 bars). This should be approximately 1 minute long.

    • In person auditions are preferred. Here are the details for an in person audition:

      • Bring sheet music that is clearly marked with your audition cut and be sure that your music is in the correct key as our accompanist will not transpose on the spot

      • Learn more about this process HERE (This video refers to Seussical auditions, but the process is the same, except we are asking for 32 bars rather than 16)

      • For a Sheet Music Example click HERE

    • Virtual Auditions will be allowed for students who are not in town on January 24th. Check out our Virtual Audition page to learn how virtual auditions are different from in person auditions.

  • A cappella music will not be considered for an audition

Audition Monologue

Please choose one of the following to present as a spoken monologue at your audition (yes, these are lyrics; we want to see acting/speaking). This does not need to be memorized for your audition; copies will be available for reference at auditions.

pg. 13 START “In the past…” END “We’ll call it square”

pg. 58 START Beginning of #9 END “Not till the sky”

pg. 66 START Beginning of #10 END “If there only were doors”

pg. 90 START Beginning of #13 END “Cause you’re starting to stick”

Note: Choose which monologue you feel you can deliver with the most dynamic acting, not necessarily based on character (for example, even if your top choice is Little Red, you may choose to pick the excerpt from “Agony” as your monologue.)

What to Wear

Wear clothes that are professional, comfortable, and that you can move easily in. Please keep your hair tied back away from your face. If you are clean, comfortable and looking your best, you are ready to go!  We will be taking a head shot of you when you arrive.

What to Bring

SHEET MUSIC: bring your sheet music with your audition cut in the correct key that you'll be singing. See the Song Selection section above for more information.

Callbacks

Callbacks: Callbacks will be by invitation only. You may receive an invitation for less than the full time outlined below. The Callback List will be posted to the Audition Callboard following auditions on January 24th. Not receiving a callback invitation does not mean you are not cast in the show. Scheduling Angela Russell Scheduling Angela Russell

Rehearsal & Performance Schedule

Producing a successful musical is very rewarding, but it requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Theatre is just like any team sport: all the players are important and when one performer is missing, it affects everyone. Before auditioning for the show, please make sure that you are aware of the large commitment involved in participating in this production:

Rehearsal Schedule Detail: Cast/Crew must attend all of their scheduled rehearsals, however, please note that not all Cast/Crew will be needed for each rehearsal. A student’s individual rehearsal schedule will be based on the role that he or she is playing in the production. We hope to get a full rehearsal schedule to cast and crew as quickly as possible. Please note, however, if a student is not called for a particular rehearsal, that is not listed as a conflict for that student, do not make any non-movable plans for that time block. Schedules can and do change depending on the needs of the show, and unless a conflict is listed on the student’s Audition Form, we assume the student is available during all rehearsal blocks.

Info Night/Read Through: There will be an Info Night and Read Through on January 29th from 6pm-9pm. Students cast in the show will receive their scripts at that time. The Attendance of all parents of students under 18 is required, whether you are serving on a Production Team or not. At this informational meeting, you will meet the Artistic Team, we will review Cast & Crew expectations, go over the rehearsal and show process and review the online Callboard. Those serving on a Production Team will meet with their team and start preparations and there will be time for Q & A. If you are not able to attend this meeting, you'll need to schedule a time to meet with Grace Thompson to review this information.

  • Tuesdays, 6pm-9pm, February 4- March 25

  • Wednesdays, 6pm-9pm, March 12, 19 (TBD if extra rehearsal time needed)

Show Synopsis

Into the Woods, via MTI

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy.
